Fake Lawyers
How do you understand that a man saying he is a lawyer but he isn’t really? Sorry but that can be a woman too. There are hundred thousands of registered lawyers in the United States. And they all usually have their IDs taken from authority associations. However in our bad times we don’t really check this things. When we think we found a good lawyer we don’t always ask his/her ID or are you really a lawyer?
Here is an example of fake lawyer story (not every lawyer is a lawyer!):
Harold Goldstein, 64, of Newport Beach, California, posted an ad on Craigslist claiming to be a retired attorney looking for lawyers to do contract work. When someone responded, Goldstein asked for the attorney’s letterhead and business cards, federal authorities said.
The ruse didn’t last long. Goldstein was arrested on June 7 — about one month following his release from the majority of a seven-year sentence for lying in court that he was a licensed attorney, stealing the identity of a real lawyer in Northern California and sending letters to inmates advertising his legal services.
“He was taken into custody based on information received by agents that he had violated the terms of his supervised release,” said Laura Eimiller, spokeswoman for the FBI in Los Angeles. She said Goldstein was being held without bond in downtown Los Angeles.
After this story, you should be extra careful and ask you lawyer if is he/she really a lawyer!
